In her solo programme, the extraordinary multi-instrumentalist Nora Thiele combines piano, percussion, acoustic instruments and electronics using a loop machine to create a unique one-woman orchestra. With a great love of experimentation and a joy in performing, she crafts multi-layered soundscapes. With a captivating stage presence, Nora Thiele takes the audience on an auditory journey into her very own improvised soundscape, spanning neoclassical, minimal music, global grooves and ambient sounds, captivating listeners with her virtuosity, sensitivity, intensity, uniqueness and freshness.

Rhythmic structures form the foundation for improvisations and compositions that draw on European and global traditions and are transformed into a new context. Meditative passages and rhythmic energy alternate, dissolving the sense of time. The result is an open, sonic language that transcends conventional genre boundaries.
In Beyond World Music, Nora Thiele combines frame drums from various cultures, piano, keyboard, electroacoustic sounds, live looping and vocals to create a unique feminine soundscape – inspiring, universal and captivating.

Nora Thiele about her work:

„I grew up in a classical musical environment with composers and theatre musicians. From the age of 9 I learnt the piano, as a teenager I discovered the world of hand drums and immersed myself in non-Western musical traditions. Today, I am just as familiar with Iraqi maqam music as I am with Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier.

In classical music, the art of improvisation has always been the most important part of a musician’s training. It was only in the 20th century that this art almost completely disappeared from classical music.

I dedicate my entire artistic and pedagogical work to improvisation (beyond free and jazz) and rhythm and groove education. These two disciplines lead a shadowy existence in Western classical music and have been better preserved in non-European musical styles. My solo programme is a departure into a new world of music with a global, equal view for a holistic understanding of music.“
